Mia Bernt of the PICYA, Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association, invited me to opening day of the San Francisco Bay. About 100 boats showed up for the parade, many of them decorated to the "Giants" theme. I have put together a video of the day and posted it on youtube. PICYA has announced the winners of the decorated boats on their website. http://www.picya.org/

It was an incredible weather for opening day on the bay. If it's an indication of what summer will be like we are going to have a great season.

This is hand-held marine footage, while I am pretty stable it's got a little rock and roll. For anyone interested, transcoding footage down for the internet emphasizes the "nautical effect". This was a calm day. I recommend stabilizing gear for most marine filming and would be happy to talk about it for your project. I have current state of the art gear to work.

Last night the schooner Freda B celebrated Betty Sullivan's birthday with a wonderful group of her loyal followers on board.
Betty's list is the it site for LGBT events and connections. Thank you Betty for spending your special day with us. We loved watching the sunset and our beautiful city wake up before our very eyes. We are looking forward to sailing with you again on June 4th!

Thank you to all who sailed with us this past weekend at the Great San Francisco Schooner Race. Winds gusted to almost 30kts at times but with a boat full of experienced sailors we were able to successfully reach every mark. Nearly twenty Bay area schooners raced in gaff and Marconi rig divisions. Freda B, along with her stellar crew came in 2nd place for the gaff rig division. Congratulations Freda B!!

On Monday morning Captain Paul and the crew of Freda B were under full sail as they entered San Francisco Bay. Their journey from Ensanada to the bay was met with an ideal weather window which allowed them to get here in just three and a half days. Captain Paul, Nolan, Mike and Zane were exhausted by the time they returned to Sausalito but everyone was happy to be home.

Be sure to come visit Freda B for a free dockside tour on July 25th from 10-7pm at Schoonmaker Point Marina in Sausalito.

Freda B Makes Her Way Up the Coast!

This past week, our captain and crew flew to Ensanada, Mexico to meet Freda B as she parted ways with the container ship that brought her through the Panama Canal. The crew has been working hard to ready the boat for her voyage north. Although the winds have been howling here on the San Francisco Bay, our crew reports that the weather in Mexico is hot with seas of 1-2 feet. We look forward to hearing updates from Captain Paul and the crew of Freda B as they make their way up the coast!

Sadly one of San Francisco's largest firework displays (Kfog Kaboom) is moving from the central San Francisco Bay to Candlestick Park. I myself spent many wind blown nights spectating SF Giants games at good old Candlestick. This change in venue will have a negative effect on the entire San Francisco Charter fleet and waterfront. I am strongly urging the City of San Francisco to invest and welcome these impressive waterfront events that bring joy and commerce to the charter fleet and SF waterfront. These events are a great addition to the fantastic City by the Bay. Redbull Airshow and KFOG Kaboom whats next?

Sausalito has beat the fog and put on a great fireworks show. We had a formal Wedding aboard the 72' Historic Schooner "Gaslight". The Bride said she had chosen the 4th of July because the fireworks were already paid for!!! This was another incredible night on the San Francisco Bay.

Opening Day on the Bay – Join the Parade 27-Apr-2008

Opening Day on the Bay, on Sunday in April 27, is the official opening day of the Northern Californian sailing season and will feature over 200 boats, beautifully decorated and adorned, heading across San Francisco Bay in parade formation starting at 12:00 p.m. Dating back to 1917 and organized by the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association, the parade sails from the shadows of the Golden Gate Bridge to just past Pier 39.
